If you live in the UK you’ll know only too well just how wet things got over Monday and Tuesday this week. It’ll go down in UK history as the Great Flood of 2007.
I was actually away from home in Hull, visiting relatives down in Essex, London when the torrential rain started on Monday. I was giving my Uncle a lift back up to Blackburn, Lancs. when we landed in the middle of what seemed like a monsoon on the A1. The traffic was going nowhere, which was just as well as nobody could see a thing.
After many hours later than planned, and a few hairy driving moment, we landed at my Uncle’s house. I’d got a bit of momentum up and so decided to head back across the M62 back to Hull. No chance – every road I could think of was completely blocked, including the main road into Hull. So, a night staying over was called for, stranded.
The next morning the roads were still closed, in fact even more so, but I gave it a shot and happened to catch a break, managing to get through. I couldn’t believe the scenes when I arrived home! Roads like rivers; people out in dinghys and canoes; crazyness!!
Here are a couple of photos taken around the streets near our house. More on Flickr too.
