Air Tunes and Airfoil

by Dave Foy on November 3, 2007

Previous to changing my main computer to a MacBook Pro, all our music was stored and served from a PowerMac G5. This was handy as it had loads of hard drive space and was always on, meaning that I could share the G5 iTunes library over our wireless network (via Airport Express) and play music all over the house, from any of our Macs, into any stereo system plugged into an Airport Express plug.

Replacing the G5 with a MacBook Pro posed a couple of challenges to this nice-and-easy system. For one, I might easily have taken the MBP out to a client, or the lid just might be shut. read more »

It shall be mine, oh yes…

by Dave Foy on October 22, 2007

After thinking about it for over a year I’ve finally bitten the bullet and ordered myself a shiny new MacBook Pro.

At 2.2Ghz, with 2GB RAM, it’s already way more powerful than my lowly 3-and-a-half year old G5 desktop machine (which in itself was top of the range in it’s day) and will happily replace it as my main machine.

I’ve plumped for a 15″, as I’m reliably informed that the 17″ simply isn’t portable. With a custom upgrade to a 160GB HD (at the pricier 7200RPM model) I’m all set for kick-ass mobile computing.

Nice new family member to keep the G5, iBook and MacMini company too!

It’s already shipped and I’m giddy as a kipper. Can’t wait!
