iTunes App Store

by Dave Foy on July 11, 2008

I hadn’t realised how quickly time has passed these last few weeks so the appearance of the iPhone App Store today took me a bit by surprise. The store has opened in advance of the iPhone 2.0 software update coming tomorrow (though some wiley folks have figured out how to get it already).

First impressions – nice! I’m actually really quite excited. Browsing the store has certainly rekindled my interest not only in the iPhone itself but also in many of the existing apps and services that the iPhone apps are based on.

Particularly the Evernote iPhone app has reminded me to look into Evernote again (and now that I have, boy is that something else for another post!) though even the every day functional apps like Facebook, Twitterific and NetNewsWire have got me excited to try them.

Mind you, for every interesting little gem there’s plenty of crap too.

Bizarrely enough, all the glossy new toys in the shop have made me realise I have precisely no interest in the actual 3G iPhone whatsoever.

UPDATE: Warning to folks trying to get the new 2.0 software update today (July 11th) — my phone’s now just totally bricked cos the software’s installed but can’t access the out-of-action iTunes store. No phone, no new software – great!
