Getting into films

Joining Amazon’s DVD Rental service recently means I’m finally managing to watch the films I’ve missed over the years.

I’ve never been good at watching films. I find it so hard to immerse myself in a story and suspend disbelief. I spend half the film at least preoccupied with hundreds of other things I could be doing.

I’m one of those people who never ‘gets’ film references or quotes, and who manages to mystify, nay, outrage people who wonder how on earth I could have got to the age of 34 without seeing [insert any classic film title here]. I’ve just seen so few films, it’s frightening. Mind you, I don’t watch telly much either, but that’s for another time…

I made a New Year Resolution two years ago to seriously address the problem: watch more films. A disastrous failure. I can think of really only 2 films I’ve seen since then that made any real impact, and that I managed to sit through to the end – Dead Man’s Shoes and… um… actually, I’m struggling beyond just the one.

So on a whim, directly after reading Malarkey’s recommendation, I signed up with Amazon’s DVD Rental by Post service. It’s been nothing short of awesome, and since signing up last week I’ve already watched 3 films. 3!! Absolutely loved them all too.

I’ll post the ones I see here for posterity, as and when I see them, and maybe keep a better record elsewhere on this site when I get more time. I know watching and enjoying films is no big deal, but it kinda is for me : )

Any hearty recommendations? Let me know in the comments.
